Saw it Friday evening, and I very much agree with you, Rachel. It occurs to me that there's a great argument for reading, here. Despite very high production values in writing, casting, direction, sets, etc., the movie is somehow just not as "involving," not as gripping, as the novels. It's a bit of a cliche to say that (and my usual response is, "Yeah, but I don't WANT to read the book!"), but if people like the movie, they'll get so much more from the novels!

Meanwhile, be on the look-out (up there at the masthead) for A&E's 5th-6th segments of Horation Hornblower, coming to NYC this very week!

Cheers, JON
