"You know you have this problem when someone in the company says that need a marketing campaign to explain to people why they should want the product."

It's not just in technology... What is "Restless Leg Syndrome" anyway? The funny part is my partner works on some of the marketing campaigns for RLS, but it just feels like something that's a little manufactured...

The iPhone ads to me are mostly to show the viewer what the product _is_ - "it's not a cellphone, it's mostly an MP3 player with a mobile web browser that happens to do phone calls" - is that visibility or persuasion or something else?

Contrasting that with the macbook air ads, where it's clear what the product is, as most everyone in the target audience knows what a laptop is and does, and the only distinguishing feature about this one is that it's smaller.
