Startling Similarity?

Shorter Dawn Eden: I think premarital sex is bad, so women shouldn't do it.
Shorter Twisty Faster: I think BJs are gross, so women shouldn't give them.

Me: Both of you need to stop delivering broad-based pronouncements on other people's sexual practices on the basis of what you personally object to.

I think Twisty likes to be controversial and stir the pot a little. And she does do it with a sense of humor, not that that redeems the underlying message.

This Dawn gal I hadn't heard of, but lordy, I couldn't wade through her writing at Feministe. Life's too short. Perhaps it's because I'm sick with a cold, but I don't want to wade through another yet another turgid conservative sexuality post...

(So your post was refreshing. ;))

(P.S. - "through another yet another" Did I mention I'm on Actifed...?)

Yeah, what Sour Duck said--I think Twisty was mostly just getting a rise out of people. And for what it's worth, I think Twisty is able to distinguish her individual experience from everybody's reality...unlike Dawn Eden.

I think you don't know hot damn when you read it.

Years from now people will still be hotly discussing Twisty Faster.

You'll be..."who...?"

And that's how revolutions are made.

Wow. Who tinkled in Pony's cornflakes?

I enjoyed the responses to Twisty's post even more than the post itself. a) women give bjs because they are slaves to men, scum that they (men) are; b) women give bjs to control and dominate men, scum that they (men) are; and c) misc. screed.

Gee, and when it came both to bjs and to "goin' south", here I was thinking that sometimes it's really nice to get over yourself and do something for the sheer joy of giving someone else pleasure.

Oh well, what do I know?

:-)

Exactly. Often I find that if one were to take the cue cards of radical feminists and replace them with those of fundamentalist conservatives, the overall effect would remain relatively the same. Stereotypes about women are still stereotypes about women, regardless of where they're coming from.

Liberation and equality will not come in the form of taking women out of one box and placing them in another; it will come in the form of accepting personal choices and desires, even if you don't personally agree with them.

It's kind of sad that people who claim so adamantly to be feminist don't actually give women much credit when it comes to intelligence and personal volition. The effect really ends up coming across more like "we (radical feminists) are the only ones with a clue, women are stupid, and men are scum". How one intends to get sexual equality out of that is beyond me.

More of my thoughts on this subject can be found at this link: http://www.enterthejabberwock.com/?p=326 (and there are a few other older posts if you search for them), for anyone interested.

Oh, and Pony: If I ever have a need for a childish, petty person, I'll know exactly where to look.

The true voice of a revolution is not whomever screams the loudest.

Honestly. Reason before polemic. Being an asshole isn't revolutionary. It's just juvenile.
