I haven’t played D&D since I was 15 or so, but I never threw my dice away. There’s a real visceral pleasure you get out of holding a handful of dice. Something to do with the colors, the way they click in your hand, and the sense of endless possibility.

Gary shaped my ’85-’87 more than he could possibly appreciate. He really helped form millions of young minds.
I spent thousands of hours playing the games he created. I started back around 1977. I learned so much playing those games. You’d be surprised how we all researched medieval economics, demographics, architecture, law and military tactics.
A blogger friend of mine posted an interview with Gary. The last paragraph really hits on the difference between modern gaming and D&D.
