We all should be so lucky to have had a life and a death like Julia Child's. Dying peacefully in your sleep at age 91 is a pretty good way to go.
Julia Child's passing is a great loss. Her honesty and humor were refreshing, and her passion for good food, good wine, and having fun in the kitchen were obvious.
I saw a couple of the FoodTV programs featuring her last year. One that stuck in my mind was a visit by Emeril to her home, where they cooked together. She totally schooled Emeril on how to cook a chicken. It was a hoot. There was another epiode where Wolfgang Puck came over bearing champagne and made her veal, asparagus, and dessert.
Red wine with your steak, anyone?

"Sad" news? Well... while my initial reaction upon hearing ran along such lines, I found a huge smile had spread across my face before I had even finished uttering it.
I was 1 when The French Chef debuted and remember (in that early childhood recollection way) watching many a first-run episode at my mother's side. Warm memories of those far too few shared years perhaps subconsciously contribute a little "something extra" whenever I watch Julia(or indeed, so much as hear or see her name), but regardless, that's the legacy she has left for me: one of pure infectious pleasure.
I feel no sadness at all, just happiness and thanks for the unaldulterated wonder that was Julia Child. This smile will never fade.
