I really can't bring myself to type out the full story, but Tasha never came home from the hospital. Her cancer was too advanced for us to do anything more than have her put out of her pain.
We got her in May 1996 from the North Shore Animal League. They did not know her exact age, but the estimate was between 9 and 18 months. So she left us somewhere between age 10 and 11. Too soon. Losing Tina was hard, but she was 17 and we'd had time to get used to the idea. It didn't happen that way for Tasha. She crashed hard and fast.
Tasha was extremely shy, so even close friends and family did not really get a chance to know her. The only people she felt comfortable around were Scott and I, and even then, she would not cuddle with us except in her "safe place" -- our bed. Above is a photo of her camped out between our pillows.
Rest easy, sweet girl. We miss you.

I am very sorry to hear about your kitty! I had a jet-black cat named Thirteen that I had to put down a long time ago. The vet found cancer in his throat and there was nothing we could do to save him. We didn't know his age, but figured he was around 10. My other kitty, an extra-toed cat named Hotmitt, died at home before the vet could arrive to put him down. He had cancer too, and was about 17 years old.
It's a hard, hard thing to say good bye to an animal companion. Even though we know our furry friends don't live as long as we do, it's still very hard to say that last farewell. My sympathies go out to you.

Hi- I came in via the Flickr thread from the fellow whose ferret had died. And I offer my condolences as well. 3 days ago was the 1 year anniversary date in which I lost my 18 year old cat, with me my entire adult life, and it still hurts, so I know where you are at right now with this process. Take care.
