So Intel is revising its branding. OK. I'm not doing cartwheels about the new logo, but it's no better or worse than the old one.
But who on earth thought it was a good idea to ditch the "Intel Inside" tagline for "Leap Ahead"? "Intel Inside" is a good, memorable tagline that adds value to the brand. "Leap Ahead" is one of those eminently forgettable taglines that adds no value to anything other than the bank account of some misbegotten branding consultant.

This is what happens when marketers and salespeople with no common sense run companies. They seem to think that they will gain back their market share from AMD - a company which has not done any heavy marketing - by running a new ad campaign and changing their logo.
HEY! How about improving your damn product? The reason AMD is beating you is not because of superior advertising, it's because of superior technology. Their CPUs now run faster, do more, and cost less than half that of Intel CPUs.
Intel needs someone like Andy Grove at the helm again, or even the CEO that departed last year, Craig Barrett (who is apparently now Chairman of the Board of Intel). DOCTOR Barrett was an Associate Professor at Stanford University in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering before he joined Intel. The current CEO, Paul Otellini, comes from the Intel sales and marketing group. He took over the position last November.
I love my wife and think she's really sharp, but she's also a diamond in a pile of coal. That is to say that when she works in marketing, she's typically surrounded by idiots. The majority of sales and marketing people are melonheads. They should be forced to pass a competency test before being allowed to make any decisions that affect the future of a company. And once that make decisions like this ridiculous Intel marketing campaign do not deserve one damn penny of their salary, nor their stock options.
